Creating An Affluent Society

Solving the poverty issue isn’t difficult. The possibilities, the laws and programs are there. When I was young we spoke of Urban renewal. This was suppose to be implemented as a renewal f neighborhoods for working class and poor families. This was implemented as a gentrification program that displaced the poor with the rich. I lived in the Chelsea  District of New York City.  Many New Yorkers left the City they loved because they where priced out. Real Estate is about profits so displacing the poor is always on the agenda.
The talk about a Living Wage, and Universal Income was on the table but any mention of the War On Poverty has died for 40 years. Many workers make 17% below their pay scale. Affordable Housing and Tenant Rights are frequently denied. Inflation is allowed and those who work to keep there head above water. So far anti poverty advocates are not even speaking of the Universal Income.
When we see American Wealth we can develop an Affluent Society where poverty is eradicated.
The steps are clear.  1, A Living Universal Income=each person can make about $30,000 with out answering the government 2. Urban renewal: No more McMansions or Vinal Clad big homes.  Urban renewal and infrastructure renewal. reducing the hours of work so people can share jobs.
Introduce social programs that can help people, like instituting a system of National Health Care and Aid  programs.
If we introduce a system that is under par, as some would say solving poverty would mean a income of $10.00 an hour, that would just maintain people in poverty. Social issues and Social distortions would still mean poverty, high crime, and alcohol and drug abuse. There are also gangs that develop and supermarket thefts and black markets develop.
When the political system invest in the social, we have employment. Worker owned co-ops, Democratic Employee Stock Option Plans, education and Affordable Housing, along with Nutrition programs help heal society.
Investing in frivolous investments that think people will come to their community is erroneous. In Europe during the 1970’s the Socialist International Parties boosted the wage of their Nations and that created disposable income and employment opportunities.
The Affluent Society should be developed so people can have access to the basics with a disposable income for leisure. Leisure creates work.
Extending economic solutions protection to the poor is one of the most important poverty reduction strategies a nation can implement. Securing property rights to land, the largest asset for most societies, is vital to their economic freedom.  Increasing rights is ‘the key to reducing poverty’ citing that Universal Income rights greatly increase poor people’s wealth.
Economic growth has the indirect potential to alleviate poverty, as a result of a simultaneous increase in employment opportunities and increase wages .  The basic income grant, a form of social security periodically providing citizens with money. In pilot projects in Namibia, where such a program pays just $13 a month, people were able to pay tuition fees, raising the proportion of children going to school by 92%, child malnutrition rates fell from 42% to 10% and economic activity grew 10%. Aid could also be rewarded based on doing certain requirements. Conditional Cash Transfers, widely credited as a successful anti-poverty program, is based on actions such as enrolling children in school or receiving vaccinations. (CCT) programs aim to reduce poverty by making welfare programs conditional upon the receivers’ actions. The government only transfers the money to persons who meet certain criteria. These criteria may include enrolling children into public schools, getting regular check-ups at the doctor’s office, receiving vaccinations, or the like. CCTs are unique in seeking to help the current generation in poverty, as well as breaking the cycle of poverty for the next through the development of human capital.  In New York=Opportunity NYC. ONYC ended on August 31, 2010. The program built on the conceptual framework and success of international conditional cash transfer (CCT) programs and was the first major CCT initiative implemented in the United States. The principal objective of Opportunity NYC Family Rewards was to test the impact of monetary incentives on children’s education, family health and adults’ workforce outcomes.
